Nov/Dec Recon Ishi Cave

Nov/Dec Ishi 6 nights:

I departed for Ishi country solo again on November 29th for one week recon and packed 50 pounds and covered about 40 miles.  My first night out, I played my Native American flute and a dozen coyotes howled.  The trip required two cold December water crossings with temperature 40 degrees.  Highlight of the trip was finding Ishi's storage cave.

I had immediate Déjà vu when I found this cave on Dec 4th 2011 with timbers inside.

Once back home less than 24 hours, I awoke at 3AM still certain that I’ve known this cave before (but obviously hadn’t).  By 3:30 AM I was already searching Berkeley archives, nearly 300 pictures of Ishi, and then finally “Déjà vu” comes up with this picture below of Ishi near this timber cave.

Certainly, I must have seen this picture in an Anthropology museum or Berkeley site once before and why such strong Déjà vu.  You can compare to my attached pictures of the same cave at the right.  My short video clip does it a much better justice.  When found, my battery was low and film short.  When I return, for a third trip, I will stand where Ishi is in this 1914 picture and redo the same photo.

Many Caves

Simply, there are too many caves for just one person to explore within the Ishi Wilderness:
