The official Special Forces (SF) motto is “De oppresso liber”, which is Latin for “Liberate the Oppressed”, and their primary mission to train and advise foreign indigenous forces. Only SF wears the Green Beret head gear that President Kennedy authorized. However, SF has basically six missions: unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, special reconnaissance, direct action, hostage rescue and counter-terrorism, but missions are not limited. Any and all may require orchestrating underground networks. The old movie “The French Connection” suggests basic understandings. SF are high priority for the CIA to recruit and SF may work with the CIA at times as support or visa versa, the CIA may provide Intel to the SF team as they orchestrate their mission during lock-down isolation to deploy. This includes the team interviewing Intel agencies and indigenous folks alike. SF may enter and escape behind enemy lines entirely via underground network independent of any government to include the US. They can blend with the natives abroad in all aspects from language to culture, or may simply help spy on something like drugs coming into the US or abroad. It is both physically and physiologically demanding and hard for anyone outside of the Special Ops community to really grasp its entirety. The shoulder sleeve insignia is unique and pictured to the top right and crest motto bottom right.
